Cardiogirl, located off Newhall Ranch Road in Valencia,  suggests group classes to get ready for this summer’s heat wave. In only 60 minutes, 3 to 4 times a week, you will be on your way to swimsuit-worthy abs plus sleeker arms, buns, and thighs.

At Cardiogirl, group exercise is a movement! Because we believe so strongly in the benefits of group exercise, our fitness staff continually puts together a diverse menu of workouts to fit all of our members’ needs. We have classes that touch upon aerobic conditioning, muscular strength, and endurance.

When it comes to working out, two’s company but three’s even better, according to research carried out by Virgin Active Health Clubs.

The survey found that 64% of women who go to the gym will push themselves harder if they are with others, compared to if working out alone. One thousand women were studied and the results showed that when involved in a group class or working out with friends women trained for longer and burned more calories!

In an ideal world, a small group session comprising friends, and even family, would potentially see awesome results with the encouragement within the group helping to spur everyone on. You are less likely to let your friend or family down if you arrange to go to a class or the gym with them.

Pina Colada Cooler

Registered dietitian Carolyn cannot understand why a Pina Colada was ever paired with a bathing suit. “It is one of the most-caloric drinks you can imagine consuming,” she tells us. An 8-ounce Pina Colada can pack in 640 calories—over 100 calories more than a Quarter Pounder with Cheese. Cardiogirl has slimmed down this dangerously delicious drink for us (phew!), and the results are just as refreshing as the original.

1 1/2 ounces coconut-flavored rum

3 ounces pineapple juice

4 ounces sparkling water

1 tablespoon of Coco Lopez Cream of Coconut Lite (found in the drink mixers section of many supermarkets)

Pour ingredients over ice and stir.
