Moving TVs? Top 5 Tips for a Successful Move

A television is often one of the most valuable and most-used items that people own. Although newer flatscreen TVs may seem easier to move than old box versions, they are just as susceptible to being dropped, scratched, or damaged in the moving process. Flatscreens are fragile and awkward to move, and they need to be properly packaged in order to maintain their functionality throughout the course of a move.

Here at Camelot Moving & Storage, we have been trusted as top furniture movers in Santa Clarita, CA for decades. Our professionals are experts when it comes to moving televisions, and we’d like to offer these five tips for people looking to move a TV on their own.

Unplug Cords and Accessories

Before you begin to physically move your TV, it’s important to unplug and remove any external cords. Besides the basic power cord, you could potentially have up to half a dozen other cables to keep tabs on and unplug. While you’re doing this, dust the back of your television to give yourself a clean area to work and to make sure that it’s clean when you arrive at your new home. Also, label the cord using a marker or masking tape, and Velcro each cord to its corresponding electronic device.

Cover Your Television

When talking about how to pack a TV for moving, the next step is to protect it from scratches. Our short-haul movers recommend a few different ways that you could do this: The first is to wrap a blanket around the screen and secure it using a small rope or a bungee cord. Alternatively, you could use the plastic protective sleeve that came with the TV or even tape on a piece of packing paper using painter’s tape.

Find a Suitable Moving Box

If you still have the original packaging for your television, that is an excellent option for moving the TV. If you got rid of this box, don’t worry, because our movers have a solution. We have a specially made TV moving box that is designed to fit any size television. It has padding for the screen and is created with the intention of safely moving a TV.

Secure the TV Inside a Moving Truck

When moving your TV to your new home, our movers will slide it into our moving truck in an upright and elevated position. Ideally, the flatscreen will be stored between other heavy items so that it doesn’t move around in the truck. If you aren’t able to find a spot to slide the television in, secure it against the wall.

Carefully Unpack the TV

Once your TV has arrived at the new location, carefully unbox it as soon as possible. To avoid damaging it, use two or more people to lift the screen out of the moving box, and do not place the box flat on the ground and slide the TV out.
