Step 1: Clear a flat, stable table space to keep all your moving supplies within arm's reach. To avoid developing back pain, make sure the table isn't so low that you’re not constantly leaning over!
Step 2: Choose the right materials. To pack wineglasses for moving, you will need padding. Options include packing paper, bubble wrap, and Styrofoam packing peanuts (in descending order of earth-friendliness).
Step 3: Fold open the new (or nearly new) small or medium-sized moving box and immediately tape the bottom. You would be surprised how many people forget to tape the bottom of boxes as they go along because they’re working too quickly! A box filled with packed wineglasses and kitchenware that has not been taped properly will not be able to hold the weight of its items and could break open, dumping all of your valuables and breakables. So take the time to complete this vital step!
Step 4: Create a cushion for your items by lining your moving box's bottom and sides with packing paper before you start wrapping the individual items.
Step 5: Wrap each item in packing material and fill the space between items with padding so nothing shifts during transport. Place glasses upright to avoid damage.
Special Note: The extremities of irregularly shaped items (such as figurines and the stems of wineglasses) will need extra attention. Use plenty of padding on these vulnerable areas and secure the items in the box.
Step 6: When done packing wineglasses and other fragile items into the box, you will add a layer of padding at the top before sealing up the box. Once sealed, a box must be able to maintain its shape—not bulging from being overfilled or collapsing from being underfilled.
Step 7 (crucial): Seal the box closed, and label it "FRAGILE" on all sides using a permanent marker or large labels.
