Moving and Packing Tips from the Experts at Camelot Moving & Storage
Even if you’ve moved multiple times over the course of your life, you can still benefit from some moving and packing tips. Every move is unique, and there’s always a chance that you’ll come across some tips that are new to you.
At Camelot Moving & Storage, we’ve been providing moving and packing services for individuals, families, and businesses relocating to locations throughout the contiguous United States for decades. Since our family-owned and operated business was founded more than 35 years ago, we’ve picked up some invaluable tips for moving and packing, and we’ve decided to share them with you.
Here are some moving and packing tips that can help make your upcoming move a stress-free, enjoyable experience:
Declutter Asap: To avoid packing and moving items that you’re not going to need or want at your new location, you should sort through your belongings. Make one pile for the items you’re keeping, another for the items you’ll donate, and a third for the things you’re going to toss.
Remember to do this for all of your belongings, not just your clothing. If you’re getting new furniture or you’re downsizing to a smaller place, you may want to donate some of your furniture or decorative items, for example. Depending on the charities you decide to donate larger things to, they may even be willing to pick up the donated items from your location, making your move even less physically taxing on you.
Use What You Can’t Move: Certain things can’t be moved in a pod or shipped to another location, such as cleaning supplies. Be sure you use these things or give them to someone who can use them before you move to prevent waste.
Bag Your Hanging Clothes: If you have a lot of clothes hanging in your closet, separate them into bunches of similar items and cover each bundle with a large trash bag. Put a rubber band around the hangers included in each bunch to make handling your bundles easier.
Pack Your Things in Other Things: As you’re packing your possessions, you’ll realize that you probably have items like pots that you can use to store other items during your move. A stock pot isn’t just great for making large batches of sauce, after all. You can also pack your spices or even your socks in it when you’re preparing to move.
Keep Essential Items with You on Moving Day: Certain items should not get packed into a box and loaded into the moving van, no matter how close you are moving. Set aside a Moving Day bag that will stay with you on Moving Day. It should include keys; important Moving Day documents like your lease, moving inventory, etc.; medications; favorite toys for your kids and pets; and other essential items. Physically separate this bag from the items being loaded into the moving van.
