2024: A Year Made Better by...You!
I have to admit, I started the year with a modest amount of trepidation due to the state of the economy and other industry woes. However, one benefit of age is the depth of one's hindsight. I've learned there will always be ups and downs, lean seasons and bountiful ones. This year was no different. What helped me endure this year's erratic operating costs and fickle economy? As always, you!
What broke through the nuts and bolts of business ownership were the faces of our community of clients, fans, and employees—the extended family that makes this business personal.
There was the client who called just last month to move back to California after 4 years living elsewhere, because this is where all the grandkids are. Then there was the client who called us to move her because she remembered Camelot moving her parents 25 years ago. That might be the longest gap between being referred to us and giving us a call!
I also recall the widow who called us to move just one item because it was a very special item as well as the widower we moved who was probably the nicest man I've ever met. And there was the inspiring client who stored her belongings with us until she found exactly where she wanted to live, and six months later I personally had the privilege of delivering her to her new, bull's eye of a neighborhood a thousand miles away. Another of Camelot's long-distance moves that I personally delivered proved memorable because I was joined by my 80-year-old cousin—an ornery, middle-finger-flipping birdwatcher who can traverse any beautiful trail, large parking lot, or truck stop with his trustworthy cane.
On a larger scale, we again enjoyed the privilege of participating in special community events that support local organizations and contribute to our community.
The personal nature of our business illuminates the difficult times with purpose and meaning. There's more to keeping the wheels turning when there is a face, a name, and a home attached.
Every year brings new opportunities and challenges, but one thing remains constant: the incredible people who walk with us on this journey. This year wouldn't have been the same without you, and we're so grateful.
