And as Wooden Used to Say...

Hey there Friend,

The start of a new year stirs different emotions for each of us. While some are excited by a fresh start, others are still waiting for the end of the cold, short days of winter. And then some are trying to linger in the last moments of winter break before the kids return to school.

I love the start of the year! The shortest day of the year is nearly an entire year away! Each day brings a few more minutes of exquisite sunshine, promising that spring and summer are just around the corner!

For those of us in the moving industry, summer means something more than just better weather: it’s our busy season! With our next peak season in the near future, a quote from one of my favorite people, John Wooden, has been ringing in my ears: “When opportunity arrives, it’s too late to prepare.” As much I love John Wooden and the message of this quote, it’s a little negative for the joy I feel this time of year. So, if I may be so bold, let’s reword it: “Opportunity is going to come knocking. Let’s get ready!”

How is Camelot making the most of the opening months of 2024 to prepare for this year’s peak season? We’re strengthening the team, kicking the tires (literally), and letting our fans know we’re ready to play!

We’re recruiting prospective team players! Our first quarter is a great time to find, hire, and train our future employees. The current slower season provides the right pace for bringing recent hires on board, teaching them the playbook so to speak, and helping them develop the literal and figurative strength that will help them keep up with the veteran crew members by the time peak season hits.

Additionally, we’re reviewing our equipment and fleet of trucks, making upgrades and repairs so that all the wheels—from those on the smallest dolly to those on the largest trailer—will keep rolling all year round. Our mechanical resources are an important facet of caring for our human resources, after all. I’m so excited to equip each of our trucks with these new, adorable ramps that will help our guys carefully traverse thresholds, porches, and stoops.

While we’re on the topic, I would like to introduce the newest member of Camelot’s fleet: Excalibur! A beautiful 40-foot moving van, she has quite a few bells and whistles that have already made her a favorite amongst our drivers! (Most fleets identify their trucks by boring ol' numbers, but we identify our trucks by names taken from the characters in King Arthur's Camelot.)

Steering a moving company can sometimes feel like steering the Queen Mary, but we continue to keep a finger on the pulse of the industry and a firm hold on the helm in order to react to the demands of the market. So additionally we're preparing for 2024's busy season by planning, creating, and implementing new marketing campaigns to make sure people know where to find us when they are ready to move. In other words and to keep the sports metaphor, we’re reviewing our game plan and keeping it fresh!

Though it may be the slow season for Camelot, we’re busy preparing for our next peak season! How about you? What quote is moving you at this dawn of a new year?
